My wife, Michelle and I are raising three men in the making: Joshua, Jacob and Jonathan, and together we are learning to walk in the reality that comes from having a new and good heart and a new identity in Christ. Reading "Wild at Heart" kick-started my journey into the freedom that Christ has given me and the life I was created to live. Leading the Band of Brothers Weekends is the realization of a dream to provide an opportunity for men to hear how their Father sees them like I had at my first Wild at Heart Boot Camp in Colorado in 2003. What makes me come alive the most is joining Jesus Christ in His mission to "bind up the brokenhearted and set the captive free," sharing the mystery and message of "Christ in you, the hope of glory." I also enjoy wrestling with my sons, camping, running, bee-keeping, writing and counseling
I saw the t-shirt at a distance and the words immediately hit home. "The journey is the destination." If this is true, then I have arrived...we all have. My journey has been filled with as much frustration as jubilation. Each turn in the road brings new life as well as new challenges. It has been a fight for freedom...freedom from the tyranny of significance...freedom from the slavery of mediocrity...freedom from the stranglehold of religion...freedom from me. It is a battle for the heart and I count it an honor to join the fight. My wife Aly and our four children are the joy of my life...besides KU basketball. I am an avid sports fan and speaking is what makes me come alive.
As a writer it is easy for me to invent a character, shape his wounds and problems, then in a few hundred pages show him healed and living “happily ever after.” But real life isn’t like that! I came to my first Band of Brothers Boot camp wounded, unable to find my way, and weary from the battle. Soon I was surrounded by the prayer team, and the Father’s voice came to me clear above the static of the world. I was able to share and fellowship with other men, and left renewed and healed. It's now my joy to fight alongside my brothers for the hearts of men, sharing the truth that our Lord is a great warrior, that we are loved, and that we can be set free.
